What is the National Grid?

The national grid is the high-voltage electric power transmission network in the UK. This grid, connects power stations and major substations across the country and ensures that electricity generated anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales can be used to satisfy demand elsewhere.

The grid in England and Wales is owned by National Grid PLC formerly National Grid Transco and National Grid Company PLC.
